Shore to Crannog 2026
A 5 Week Open Water Swimming Course
A structured 5 week wild swimming course designed to build your confidence, skills and experience step by step.
You’ll work towards a final swim out to the crannog, supported throughout with small group sessions, in-water guidance and individual feedback.
This is a progressive course with a fixed group, allowing you to build confidence week by week alongside the same swimmers.
Course Overview
Over five guided sessions, you’ll build your confidence in open water gradually, developing the skills, awareness and comfort needed to swim further and feel more capable in the water.
Each session is designed to build on the last, with a focus on technique, control, and understanding your environment. You’ll be supported both in and out of the water, with individual feedback to help you progress at your own pace.
The course builds towards a final swim to the crannog. While many swimmers reach this goal, progression varies from person to person. Safety, conditions and individual confidence will always guide how far each swimmer goes.
The Crannog
The crannog at Loch Venachar is an archaeological site located in Stirling, Scotland, comprising the remains of a prehistoric lake dwelling. It is situated towards the eastern end of Loch Venachar and is approximately 20 meters in diameter. Investigations in 1912 revealed waterlogged organic remains, suggesting that it was part of a prehistoric settlement. The site is of national importance due to its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and may contain well preserved materials related to the economy and environment of the site.
